‘I always believed in the saying of Mahatama Gandhi, ‘The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members’ and southern Africa’s philosophy called Ubuntu meaning ‘I am because you are’

Since joining the profession, I had been passionate about making a significant contribution to the society. I understand my moral responsibility towards society and always try to ‘give back’ by applying and adhering to socially responsible practices towards overall improvement of quality of lives of vulnerable and marginalised sections. It was a beautiful journey of six months during my residency days with people of Sapera Basti (snake-charmer colonies) of Haryana, where I gradually garnered their support and increased their immunization rates and outpatient attendance from negligible to a substantial level. I have been working on many social issues, amongst which I personally like to interact with smoker to quit through motivational interviewing and other behavioural interventions. I have written many booklets for community, some of which includes, Swasthya Chalisa (management of 40 common illness at home), manual on epilepsy (in Hindi and English), handbook on lifestyle modifications for better health; leaflets for tobacco cessation (in Hindi, Punjabi and English) for diabetes, hypertensive, cardiovascular disease and stroke patients; and modules for various national health programs for easy understanding of general public and lay health workers. I continue to work unconditionally for betterment of community by putting myself in their shoes and investing socially for overall benefit of humankind. I want to leave this world in better shape than when I came….
