Project Description

To strengthen tobacco control in India by enhancing technical capacity, strengthening resources to support the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), fostering multi-sectoral partnerships, and preventing Tobacco Industry Interference (TII) at both national and sub-national levels, while supporting comprehensive MPOWER implementation.

Key Objectives

Strengthening RCTC to support the implementation of WHO MPOWER, NTCP, and tobacco-control laws in India.
Enhancing networking and partnerships with public health associations, institutes of national excellence, and selected universities to strengthen tobacco-control efforts in India.
Strengthening monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and research capacity in tobacco control by mentoring NTCP programme managers, tobacco-control stakeholders, and early-career researchers across MPOWER domains.
Underpinning a “whole-of-government” approach for the effective implementation of WHO FCTC Article 5.3 and developing state-specific guidelines to prevent Tobacco Industry Interference (TII).
Generating evidence and strengthening enforcement mechanisms to reduce the availability and accessibility of tobacco products in India.
