On 24 July 2026, at the WHO India country office, Prof.(Dr) Sonu Goel, President, Resource Center for Tobacco Control (RCTC), PGIMER Chandigarh, formally received the WHO Regional Director’s Special Recognition Award, conferred on RCTC in 2022. The award was formally presented by Dr Yvan J.-F. Hutin, WHO Representative to India. The award recognised RCTC’s significant contribution to public health and tobacco control. Under the leadership of Prof.(Dr.) Sonu Goel, RCTC has grown into a nationally recognised center, advancing evidence-based tobaco control through innovation, collaboration and capacity building. The recognition reflects the collective efforts of the entire RCTC team and its continued commitment to strengthening tobacco control and public health.
